Let me take you back in time to when I used to own and run a cocktail bar. Izzie used to pop in now and again to enjoy a cocktail or two – I didn’t know who she was at the time. Her sister also used to work at Five and Lime in Guildford, which is my Wednesday night residency. Fast forward to 2022 and I happened to be recommended to her, to DJ at her wedding in France! Some of her guests were regulars at my place so it was a bit of a reunion!
The wedding was on a Saturday in a beautiful village just outside Toulouse. I had three weddings prior to that so it was a hectic week. My Thursday gig finished late into Friday morning so I slept in my car for 3 hours then took the flight at 6am! That’s rock n’ roll right there!
I spent my Friday afternoon touring the village and trying to find the finest baguettes in town – when in Rome right?!. The wedding was at the beautiful Chateau Saint Martory (https://www.instagram.com/chateausaintmartory/). Izzie and Sean had reserved the chateau for a few days. I was lucky enough to stay in the gate keeper’s cottage which was overlooking the river – it was lush, I mean really really beautiful!
The next day, I got up nice and early to set up my gear and do my sound check and voila…everything worked perfectly. I felt very much part of the family; the guests were really cool. It was a young wedding so I knew it would be a late one – I made sure I brought my A-game.
I sat and had dinner with the guests (usually DJs are given a chair in the changing room or storage room somewhere!) which was cool. After the first dance, we got the party started with a bang. I kept the energy up, banger after banger, chopping and scratching and throwing in some live remixes – ya’ll know how I get down! It was a proper club night. Check out the reel on my insta. It was great to work with the talented Jonathan Ellis – shout out to you sir for the awesome pictures. I didn’t get to bed until 3am. My ride to the airport for my 10am flight was a Tesla! What a trip! In 2023 there will be new adventures to Poland, France and Italy… I can’t wait.
